The question arises, What Washington wants exactly from Eritrea?
The question arises, What Washington wants exactly from Eritrea?
Asmara, 29 June 2011 -- A number of Eritrean nationals said that the statement made by the US representative in Eritrea saying that 'Washington should resort to a campaign of recruiting students and youths through the funding of NGOs, religious organizations and the like, as the hostilities weaved against Eritrea have failed to succeed.' In this connection, the nationals pointed out that the scheme issued by the US representative in Eritrea in a futile attempt of 'recruiting Eritrean nationals abroad' reflects daydream of the Administration. The nationals told ERINA that the campaign being waged by the representatives of the US Administration to block the financial assistance extended to martyrs' families on the part of Eritreans in the Diaspora and trying to foment division along the lines of religion and others amply demonstrate the firm unity of the Eritrean people on the one hand, and the growing desperation of enemy quarters on the other.

Leave No Women Behind
Leave No Women Behind
Spreading out along Ethiopia's northern border with Eritrea, the region of Tigray has a tense and difficult history. The area was hit particularly hard by the famines and civil war during the 1980s and 1990s. The region has a high prevalence of people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as many broken homes and dead or missing men.For the women of Tigrinia and their families life has been tough, with limited access to financial, medical, educational and social support systems. The Spanish Government funded United Nation's Millennium Development Goal Fund (MDGF) is focused on supporting the Ethiopian Government to meet the MDGs. The Leave No Women Behind program works with UNFPA and supports existing Ethiopian government structures to try and improve the lives of these women. mdgfund.org produced by oliverwilkins.com

Dr Birehanu: TPLF Cooking the book on ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND shying away from democratisation
Dr Birehanu: TPLF Cooking the book on ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND shying away from democratisation
SHOCKS AND CRISES Democratizations occur because of the transitory nature of the threat of revolution. In some situations, the collective action problem will be easier to solve, opponents to the egime easier to coordinate, and revolutions easier and less costly to carry out. These will typically be times of crisis, for example, times of harvest failures, economic depressions, international financial or debt crises, or even wars. Such crises and macroeconomic shocks are intrinsically transitory and lead to short-term fluctuations in the ability to solve the collective action problem. Our theory therefore predicts that democratizations are more likely to arise in a situation of economic or political crisis that is consistent with the observation (Therborn 1977) that democratizations often follow wars and consistent with the evidence of Haggard & Kaufman (1995), Przeworski et al. (2000), and Acemoglu et al. (2005b). SOURCES OF INCOME AND COMPOSITION OF WEALTH An important determinant of the trade-off between democracy and repression is the source of the income of the elite. This can affect both the cost of repression, κ, and the extent of redistribution in democracy, (T c, Tc). In some societies, the elite are heavily invested in land, whereas in others, the elite are those with investments in physical and human capital. There are likely to be three major differences in the attitudes of landowners and (physical and human) capital owners toward democracy and nondemocracy ...
